28 Dec Masterpieces to go on display at Gallerie Nazionali d’Arte Antica di Palazzo Barberini in Rome
We’re pleased to share the news! A selection of nine works shall feature in Mediterraneo in Chiaroscuro – Ribera, stomer e mattia Preti da Malta a Roma; a joint exhibition project featuring works from the two national collections in comparison. Works from our collection include Ribera’s ‘St Stephen’, three works each by Mathias Stomer and Mattia Preti, Francesco de Mura’s ‘Allegory of Malta’ and the enigmatic ‘Eraclitus’ presented with a new attribution.
The exhibition catalogue, the cover of which features on this page, features contributions by international scholars, curators and museum directors including Gabriele Finaldi (Director, National Gallery, London), Viviana Farina and Claudio Malice (Accademia di Belle Arti, Naples), Mario Epifani (formerly Curator at Armerie Reali, Turin), Alessandro Cosma (Gallerie Nazionali d’Arte Antica di Roma) and Sandro Debono ( Senior Curator and MUZA Project Lead).
This project is a joint collaboration between Heritage Malta and Gallerie Nazionali d’Arte Antica di Roma under the distinguished patronage of the Maltese Embassy in Rome on the occasion of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Indeed, this is also a unique opportunity to showcase and promote the MUZA project and its collection on the international scene.
