18 Nov … and then we hosted close to 180 delegates from all over Europe for the Network of European Museums Organisations (NEMO)!
It had been announced way back in 2016, that the annual conference for the Network of European Museums Organisations would be having their annual conference at MUZA and that this would eventually be the first ever international event at MUZA!
It was indeed a pleasure to welcome so many delegates from all over Europe to MUZA and an honour to host Commissioner Tibor Navrancic for the inauguration. The EU commissioner also toured MUZA briefly and met NEMO President David Vuillaume and CEO Julia Pagel who also gave their reactions to the media about both project and vision. The programme featured stimulating presentations by heritage professionals, museum directors and international expertise in the field.
We were also privileged to be invited to present our flagship project Naqsam l-MUZA (Sharing MUZA) and the long winding, and challenging journey that led us from a traditional National Museum of Fine Arts institution to MUZA. Workshops were held at MUZA and at Blitz art gallery, Spazju Kreattiv and The Fortress Interpretation Centre. A special treat was reserved for the delegates at the Malta Maritime Museum. Following a brief trip by ferry boat across Grand Harbour, our guest were treated to a special dinner featuring historic food prepared on eighteenth-century recipes.
The conference also hosted the Children in Museums Award Ceremony with nominees from all over Europe presented on the night. Congratulating the Keppler Centre at the National Museums of Singapore for winning this prestigious award!
